Minority AIDS Initiative (M.A.I.)
The Minority AIDS Intiative Program (MAI.) is designed to increase medical and medication adherence among African Americans and Hispanics living with HIV/AIDS.
Through the MAI program, Metro Charities provides you with health education, translation, interpretation, support groups, peer support, and transportation to medical appointments to eligible clients. By reducing barriers to healthcare, many of our clients see successful increases in their CD4 (T-cell) counts and decreasing their viral loads.
The goal of this program is to teach you how to communicate effectively with medical providers and become more proactive regarding your health and eventually become mentors to other Metro clients.
The MAI program trains you to be leaders in activities such as organizing and creating topics for the program’s monthly newsletters and assisting program staff with brainstorming and hosting health fairs and other multicultural community events.
The Minority AIDS Initiative is currently offered at the Metropolitan Charities Tampa and New Port Richey office locations.
