Volunteers help Metropolitan Charities in many important ways, and we want your experience to be rewarding, innovative, and unique from other opportunities.
Our basic expectations for all Metropolitan Charities Volunteers:
• We expect you to show respect and courtesy to Metropolitan Charities staff, volunteers, clients, and other guests, and to work with individuals regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, political affiliation, or disability status.
• We expect you to keep your commitment when you agree to help us with an activity, and to give advance notice if you are unable to attend.
• We expect that you will not be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs during any Metropolitan Charities volunteer activities.
• We expect that you will not use your volunteer role, resources, or time commitment to solicit personal information or make arrangements for your personal gain among clients, event attendees, or community outreach contacts.
• We expect you to complete whatever training is necessary for certain volunteer activities such as special events, special client services, and internships.
• We expect that you will represent Metropolitan Charities to the community with accurate, up-to-date knowledge of HIV/AIDS and its impact on society’s most vulnerable members.
• We expect you to make a good faith effort to resolve conflicts with fellow volunteers, Metropolitan Charities staff, and community members you encounter, with respect for the dignity of everyone involved.
• We expect you to abide by the guidelines found in the Metropolitan Charities Volunteer Manual that includes Code of Conduct, Drug Free Workplace, Harassment Policy, Safety and Health.
• We welcome you to give constructive feedback on how to improve Metropolitan Charities volunteer experiences.
As a Metropolitan Charities volunteer, you play a meaningful role in our success. You should always expect Metropolitan Charities staff to adhere to the above expectations as well.
As a Metropolitan Charities Volunteer, you can:
• Expect to be welcomed and thanked by friendly, enthusiastic people who care about the health and well being of our community.
• Expect to volunteer in an environment that respects and celebrates diverse backgrounds and identities, and welcomes individuals regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, political affiliation, or disability status.
• Expect to receive the training you need to do your job well.
• Expect meetings, trainings, and other activities involving Metropolitan Charities staff to begin and conclude at the promised time.
• Expect to be treated with dignity, respect, and gratitude for your efforts to help Metropolitan Charities reach its long term mission, goals and objectives.
